Head and Neck Surgery
Our visionary, auditory, olfactory and gustatory organs are located in the head and the neck, and the face plays an essential role in social activities. If tumours or injuries occur at head and neck, physical appearance as well as the abilities to swallow, converse and breathe will be affected. A tumour may be benign or malignant; a benign tumour can be cured by surgical removal, while the treatment process of a malignant tumour involves removal and reconstruction of the treated part, coupled with radiation therapy and chemotherapy after surgery. Tumours commonly seen in the head and neck regions are parotid tumour and thyroid tumours. They can be benign or malignant. A fine needle aspiration cytology is usually needed to determine the nature of the tumour before alleviating the treatment. In most situation, surgical removal of the tumour is needed. Also, malignant tumours are seen in the oral cavity eg tongue, floor of mouth and the gum. The treatment of these tumours is major resection and reconstruction to store the function of the oral cavity. The surgery can be complicated and recovery can take up to a few months. Radiotherapy is also needed to reduce the chance of recurrence.
Our service includes:
  • Oral cancer treatment
  • Salivary gland surgery
  • Tumour resection and reconstruction
  • Lymph node biopsy
  • Cleft lip and palate repair
  • Facial Trauma (skin wound suture, facial bone fracture operation)
Double Eyelid Surgery
Double eyelid surgery can alleviate small, sleepy eyes caused by single eyelid, epicanthic fold, loosened eyelid, etc.

Surgery details:
In general, either suture or incision technique is used depending on individual circumstances. Clients are recommended to consult professional advice from doctors beforehand. The surgery can be performed in the clinic, which takes approximately 2 hours. Temporary discomfort, swelling or bruises may occur on the eyelids after surgery. Recovery is expected in approximately 2-3 weeks.
Surgery effect:
Generally permanent
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is an operation to reshape or rebuild the nose, caused either congenitally or by injuries. An overall aesthetic enhancement can be achieved through correction and reshaping procedures on individual or multiple parts, such as bridge augmentation, hump removal, tip shape alteration, or width adjustment between the nose and the upper lip. Combined with septoplasty, these surgeries may alleviate symptoms of nasal obstruction.
Surgery details:
Selected surgery can be performed in the clinic and may take more than one hour depending on the scope. In general, facial swelling after surgery will significantly subside after three to four weeks. During this period, vigorous exercises and activities that may subject the nose to impact or sunburn should be avoided. The patient may perform light exercises one month after surgery and step up the intensity of physical activities in three months after surgery with special attention the nose to avoid impact.
Surgery effect:
Permanent
Liposuction and Fat Transfer
Fats are natural tissues in the human body. When fatty deposits build up disproportionately in individual parts of the body to the point that they deform the body, liposuction may be performed to remove excessive fat in specific areas to restore the body shape.

Fat transplantation is the filling of uneven or sagged areas with autologous fat. It helps plump up sunken or emaciated areas such as eye sockets, cheekbones, lips and facial scars.

Fat tissues drawn out through liposuction may be treated and injected into the targeted body areas, such as forehead, temple, cheek or smile lines to correct changes in facial contour caused by ageing or injury. It may also be used for breast augmentation.
Surgery details:
Selected surgery can be performed in the clinic and may take more than one hour depending on the scope. Micro cannula with a diameter 2.0mm to 3.0mm are now commonly used in liposuction. The small and obscured wounds will leave almost no traces after full recovery. Swelling generally begins to subside one weekafter surgery. Social activities may commence one week after surgery.
Effect:
The effect of liposuction is long lasting permanent with proper diet.
Breast Aesthetic Surgery
Mammoplasty procedures include breast augmentation, mastopexy (breast lifting), breast reduction and breast reconstruction, etc.
Breast Augmentation
Also known as breast enlargement, breast augmentation improves the size and elevation of the breasts for an enhanced body contour through the emplacement of silicone implants underneath or above the pectoralis major muscle. Fat from other parts of body can also be transferred to enlarge the breasts. This technique can achieve a more natural texture of breasts. However usually more than one procedure is needed for optimal result. In addition to congenital underdevelopment of breasts, reduction in breast size caused by other factors such as natural ageing, weight loss, childbirth, breast feeding and mastectomy (breast removal) may also be rectified through breast augmentation.
Surgery details:
The surgery takes approximately two hours. The patient may resume work in a few days. Physical contact with the breasts (except bras) should be avoided within three to four weeks. Surgical scars will usually flatten and fade gradually in three months to one year.
Breast Lifting
Also known as breast fixation, breast lifting is a surgical procedure that restores the natural shape and elevation of breasts through the tightening of supportive skin surrounding the breasts and correlated tissues underneath. It is applicable to women whose breasts have gradually lost elasticity and strength to maintain perkiness and elevation due to excessive extension of the breast or surrounding skin caused by pregnancy, substantial weight change or aging.
Surgery details:
The surgery is performed in hospital and takes approximately two to three hours. The patient may resume work in about two weeks, and vigorous activities may resume after one month. It takes a few months to a year for scars to diminish.
Breast Reduction
Heavy breasts or hypertrophy often inflict discomfort, such as chronic pain at the back and the neck, eczema, short breath and even skeletal deformation. Therefore in addition to aesthetic purposes, breast reduction is performed to reduce breast weight while maintaining optimal size, removing excessive breast skin to tighten saggy skin, and altering the position of nipples by lifting them to an optimal height.
Surgery details:
The surgery is performed in hospital and generally takes approximately three to four hours depending on the size of the breasts and anaesthesia method. A recovery period of two to three weeks is required in general circumstances, after which most patients may resume work. It is recommended that vigorous activities be resumed after four to six weeks.
Breast Reconstruction
Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumours seen in females. In some cases where partial or the entire breast has to be removed, the breast can be rebuilt through surgical reconstruction with implants or autologous tissues, such as transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flap or latissimus dorsi muscle flap.
Surgery details:
The surgery is performed in hospital and takes approximately four to six hours. The patient may be discharged seven to ten days after surgery depending on the patient’s condition. A recovery period of four to six weeks is required.
Scar Treatment
A scar is an area of normal connective fibrous tissues on the body resulted from biological repair of wounds caused by external injuries, inflammation and burns. Significant scars induced by sunken recess, lumps, outspreading roughness, redness or pigmentation, especially those left on exposed parts of the body, may undermine self-confidence and normal social activities of patients.

A contracture may occur in serious scars. If a contracted scar is located on a joint or a body part with frequent movements, such as lips or eyelids, a functional disorder preventing normal movements of the affected part, e.g. finger straightening or eyelid closure, may occur. Some scars may develop into hypertrophic scars or keloids, which are itchy and painful, with tumour-like growth.
Treatment methods:
There are many ways to treat scars, including injection, laser and surgery, and the method depends on individual circumstances.
Abdminoplasty
Abdominoplasty removes loosened skin from the lower abdomen to alleviate lumps and drooping tummy.
Surgery details:
The surgery is performed in hospital and takes approximately two to three hours. After surgery, the patient may be hospitalized for seven to ten days. Abdominal binder can be worn for three months to reduce skin swelling.
Facelift
Ageing causes muscles and skin on the face and the neck to sag, or wrinkles deepened due to excessive or insufficient fat. The aim of skin tightening surgery is to tighten loosened features and remove excessive skin or fat to alleviate wrinkles.
Surgery details:
The surgery is generally performed in hospital and takes approximately four hours. Since the wounds are hidden behind the hairline as well as front and back of the ears, significant scars will not be visible after full recovery.
Botox and Fillers
Cosmetic injection is a non-surgical beauty treatment to smooth wrinkles induced by muscle tension or ageing, and to fill sagged features like tear troughs and smile lines. Injectables more commonly used in the industry nowadays include botulinum toxin (Botox), hyaluronic acid and collagen. The type of injectables is determined by individual circumstances as the effects and usage vary.
Surgery details:
After local anaesthesia, the filler will be directly injected into the parts to be treated. The treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes.
Effect:
Injections of non-permanent fillers such as hyaluronic acid or collagen give an immediate effect that lasts 6 to 12 months. Effect of botulinium toxin injection can last for 6 to 9 months.

There are also associated nausea, visual or auditory aura. Treatment mainly focus on analgesic when there is an attack. Some drugs can prevent attack by reducing the frequency and severity of attacks. Relaxing therapy can reduce stress and attack. Botulinum toxin injection can also help to prevent attacks.
Surgery Details
Migraine surgery is to decompress nerve in head and neck region to prevent migraine attack. Most of the surgeries can be performed under local anaesthesia in clinic. It is no need to be admitted to hospital. The nerve to be decompressed will be identified before surgery. The skin wound is about 2-3 cm. Surgery can usually be performed in an hour. If it is the nose structure need to be decompressed then general anaesthesia will be needed. Patient will stay in hospital overnight for observation after surgery.
Treatment effect
On literature, about one third of migraine patients received surgery have no further migraine attack. Symptoms of another one third patients are much improved. Migraine surgery can be offered to patients with persistent symptoms despite maximal medical treatment.
